as we said, we are cuting to the chase on this course. Lets make our own maize sheller. We shall just highlight one method of creating a sheller, so feel free to explore more.
Materials Needed:
-
Polythene pipe or bamboo
-
Bolts
-
Cutting tool, for example a hot knife
Steps to Create the Sheller:
-
Cut the pipe or bamboo to a comfortable hand length
-
Make small holes..... Nails are an optional tool for this
-
Insert bolts through the pipe so they slightly stick inside, these will help grip and remove the maize grains
-
Smooth out any sharp outer edges for safe handling
-
Hold the cob firmly and twist or push it through the pipe while rotating
- You can also use a power drill for faster rotations (handle with care)
The bolts and rough inner surface will rub against the cob and remove the grains quickly.
