  • Repairing Paint Scratches and Cracks

    • When you love your bike, those scratches can be annoying. From simple scuffs to deeper scratches that expose the material underneath, there are different ways you can deal with them. Follow the video below to see how to fill and paint over a damaged area. But don't feel limited to this method. Depending on the damage, you can also use spray paint or stickers to cover the affected area. You could go for a simple colour-matched sticker, or turn the scratch into an opportunity to add some personality to your bike with an aesthetic sticker. Just remember, if the damage is an actual structural crack in the frame, don't simply paint over it. A structural crack can affect the safety of the bicycle and should be properly inspected before riding.

  • Chain Replacement and Repair

    • A bicycle chain goes through a lot, and eventually it may become worn, damaged or even break. The video below demonstrates how to replace a chain with a new one. But pay attention to the process, because many of the same steps are useful when dealing with a broken chain. You don't always need a fully equipped workshop either. Depending on the bicycle and the type of chain, some repairs can be done using simple or improvised tools. The important thing is knowing what the tool is supposed to do and using it carefully rather than forcing something and damaging the bicycle.

  • Fixing a Punctured Tube

    • If you actually ride your bicycle, a puncture is something you may eventually have to deal with. And when it happens kilometres away from home, knowing how to fix it can save you a long walk. The video below shows how to repair a punctured inner tube. One important thing to remember, do not use ordinary glue. Use a proper rubberised or tyre patch adhesive designed for repairing bicycle tubes. Before applying the patch, make sure the area around the puncture is clean, dry and properly prepared so the patch can bond securely. It is also useful to carry basic puncture-repair equipment when riding, such as tyre levers, a patch kit and a pump.

  • Straightening a Wobbly Bicycle Wheel

    • A wobbly wheel can affect how smoothly and safely a bicycle rides. In this section, you'll learn a simple way to identify and correct a crooked rim.

Place a marker close to the rim as you spin the wheel. Where the rim touches the marker, a mark will show you where the wheel is crooked. Use a spoke wrench to make small adjustments to the spokes around that area, then spin the wheel again. Keep adjusting until the rim no longer touches the marker.

  • Keeping Your Bicycle Moving: Lubrication

    • It is very important to keep all the moving parts lubricated for better performance, energy efficiency, less friction and reduced wear. Proper lubrication also helps protect parts from rust and corrosion. Lubrication is rather easy, identify the parts that need it, use the correct lubricant and apply it in the right amount.

The chain is one of the most important parts to lubricate because it constantly moves and carries the power from your pedals to the wheel. After cleaning, apply bicycle chain lubricant to the chain and wipe off the excess to prevent dirt from building up. Other moving parts, such as derailleur and brake pivots and cables, may also require light lubrication.

The video below will give you a deeper insight into how to properly lubricate your bicycle and keep its moving parts working smoothly.
